Tra la moltitudine di marchi di orologi presenti attualmente sul mercato, ce ne sono alcuni, per lo più marchi di nicchia e indipendenti, che osano laddove molti prediligono la strada più sicura (forse) dei segnatempo dalle tradizionali linee classiche o delle riedizioni di pezzi iconici che hanno contribuito a farne la fortuna nel passato.
Urwerk, fondato da Felix Baumgartner e Martin Frei nel 1997, è un marchio indipendente e anticomformista che, al pari di pochi altri, predilige osare proponendo segnatempo apparentemente difficili da interpretare per chi si limita a una veloce e superficiale occhiata.
Prima di raccontare l’UR-105 CT, come ogni cosa del resto, bisognerebbe prendersi del tempo. Osservarne i particolari andando oltre l’estetica severa. L’UR-105 CT è un orologio “riservato” che da “chiuso” ti rivela solo l’indicazione dell’ora ma che, una volta “aperto”, ti si rivela in tutta la sua rigorosa beltà meccanica. Chi va oltre la “ruvida” apparenza dell’UR-105 CT Streamliner Limited Edition potrà scoprire un orologio “semplice” nella sua complicità meccanica che si adatta perfettamente al polso nonostante l’inconsueta forma ottagonale della cassa (39,5 mm x 53 mm x 17,3 mm).
Le influenze Art Deco sono chiare così come i richiami all’architettura degli edifici statunitensi (Empire State, Chrysler e Comcast) con le loro strutture nette e verticali che puntano al cielo.
Il suo cuore meccanico pulsante è il calibro automatico UR 5.03 (52 rubini, 28.800 a/h, riserva di marcia di 48 ore) che vanta un sistema di auto avvolgimento governato da turbine pneumatiche gemelle visibili lato fondello. Questo sistema, che controlla la carica automatica dell’orologio, è regolabile agendo su di una leva (3 posizioni): nella posizione FULL si riavvolge la molla del bariletto con il solo movimento naturale del polso, sulla posizione RED (Reduction) si evita di sovraccaricare la molla in caso di attività sostenuta mentre sulla posizione STOP il sistema di auto avvolgimento viene disinserito e si agisce manualmente sulla corona a ore 12.
Nella parte superiore del segnatempo si può osservare l’indicazione delle ore saltanti che si basa su di un carosello (ridisegnato e più leggero di quello presente sui precedenti modelli) che “regge” quattro satelliti, ciascuno dei quali riporta tre numeri per le 12 ore. Oltre alla scala dei minuti, sul quadrante sono visibili i secondi digitali che riportano le decine di secondi e l’indicatore della riserva di carica.
L’UR-105 CT Streamliner, impermeabile fino a una profondità di 30 metri, è disponibile con cassa in titanio/acciaio PVD nero (UR105 CT Black) e in titanio/acciaio lucidato a specchio (UR105 CT Iron). Entrambe le versioni, realizzate in una serie limitata di 50 esemplari, hanno un prezzo di listino di 65.000 CHF + IVA.
Il cinturino, assicurato al polso grazie a una fibbia pieghevole in titanio, è in gomma nera rivestita con pelle di alligatore di colore nero oppure con tessuto tecnico nero.

BE DIFFERENT. The URWERK UR-105 CT URWERK STREAMLINER LIMITED EDITION IS THE NEW CREATION OF FELIX BAUMGARTNER AND MARTIN FREI.
The new Urwerk UR-105 CT Streamliner Limited Edition is first of all a interesting and inusual object that fits snugly in the palm of the hand. Its unique shape is a remarkable octagon (39.5mm x 53mm x 17.3mm) with deep grooves along its length. The Art Deco influences are apparent in its geometric angularity and symmetry. As Martin Frei explained: “the Streamliner has a minimalist design with few frills and clean lines. In the initial drawings, I thought of the Empire State, the Chrysler and the Comcast buildings. That is why it has that vertical structure that seems to go on forever.”
The UR-105 CT is a watch with a flexible design and pressure tested to 3ATM. When it is closed, it looks austere with only the time indication visible. Open the protective cover and you delve into a metallic environment that is quite cold, yet you perceive a notion of speed and an effort at efficiency. The Streamliner’s carousel has been completely redesigned, becoming lighter, stronger and far more effective.
You have to slide the catch on the top of the case to reveal the mechanism of the UR-105 CT (calibre UR 5.03 with the selfwinding system governed by twin turbines, 28,800v/h, 48 hours of power reserve). The two pneumatic turbines on the back govern the selfwinding rate which can be set with a lever. In the FULL position, the slightest movement of the wrist is harnessed to rewind the barrel spring. Turn the lever to STOP to disengage the selfwinding system and wind up the UR-105 using the crown. An intermediate position, RED (for reduced) engages the turbines to dampen the winding rotor and avoid overstressing the mainspring, if you are particularly active.
It’s a new wandering hour indication based on an openwork carousel which carries the four satellites, each bearing three numerals for the hours. The hours successively sweep past the minutes scale for an analogue and digital display of the time. A power-reserve indicator and digital seconds make up the rest of the information displayed on the dial. The digital seconds are remarkable in that they indicate tens of seconds.
The Streamliner comes in two versions, both limited edition of 50 pieces:
