Il nuovo Richard Mille tourbillon RM 70-01 Alain Prost, dotato di un inedito totalizzatore di chilometri percorsi, ha una cassa (49,48 x 54,88 x 17,65 mm) realizzata in tre parti in Carbonio TPT che abbina la forma tonneau a quelle rettangolare e asimmetrica assicurando comfort all’indosso e leggibilità dell’ora anche quando si impugna il manubrio della bicicletta.
La cassa, impermeabile fino a 50 metri grazie a due guarnizioni toriche (o-ring) in Nitril, viene assemblata per mezzo di 20 viti a testa scanalata in titanio grado 5 con rondelle in acciaio inossidabile 316L resistenti all’usura. La corona dinamometrica vanta un sistema di sicurezza che limita la coppia applicabile sulla corona di carica, possibile causa di danni all’albero di carica o di eccessiva tensione della molla del bariletto.
Il vetro zaffiro (1.800 Vickers) lato quadrante è spesso 1.50 mm mentre lato fondello è spesso 1,20 mm al centro e 2.08 in periferia. Il vetro zaffiro, sia lato lunetta sia lato fondello, è antiriflesso ambo i lati.
Il suo cuore pulsante (21.600 a/h) è il calibro RM 27-03, movimento con tourbillon a carica manuale con ore, minuti, indicatore della riserva di marcia di 70 ore (visibile a ore 5 e comandato da un differenziale planetario) e contachilometri.
Questo movimento, con la sua architettura verticale che allinea l’asse del tourbillon a quello del bariletto, presenta una profonda tridimensionalità. Dispone di platina e ponti in titanio grado 5, bilanciere a inerzia variabile in Glucydur, bariletto a rotazione rapida (un giro in 6 ore anziché 7,5) e sistema antiurto KIF Elastor KE 160 B28. I richiami al mondo del ciclismo si ritrovano nelle viti in titanio con testa ad esagono incassato che fissano i ponti, nel rocchetto del bariletto che riprende il disegno delle ruote a razze passando per la gabbia del tourbillon e la corona dinamometrica che richiamano la pedaliera.
CONTACHILOMETRI MECCANICO
L’originale contachilometri permette di registrare percorrenze fino a 99.999 chilometri ma può anche essere utilizzato come promemoria regolandolo su una data o un orario. Per mezzo di un pulsante a ore 2, l’utilizzatore può scegliere, fra le cinque rotelline del numeratore che si affaccia dalla finestrella in titanio, quella da aggiornare tramite il pulsante a ore 10 a salti di una cifra alla volta. L’unica accortezza richiesta è quella di sommare i chilometri giornalieri al totale precedentemente registrato.
Dal punto di vista meccanico l’operazione è decisamente più complessa. Il primo pulsante attiva la selezione di una delle cinque ruote, confermata dall’allineamento delle frecce gialle. Il secondo pulsante fa avanzare di una unità alla volta la ruota selezionata che si blocca automaticamente grazie al meccanismo di trascinamento. Per evitare attivazioni accidentali, la complicazione è provvista di una posizione neutra. Grazie ad una serie di molle, la forchetta di selezione delle ruote si riposizionerà indicando con una freccia la lettera N a ore 2, a conferma del blocco del meccanismo.
Ogni acquirente riceverà una bicicletta da strada realizzata su misura. Sviluppata da Alain Prost e Richard Mille in collaborazione con la Colnago, prestigioso produttore italiano, questa serie di biciclette numerata individualmente è prodotta a mano e verniciata con i colori della maison orologiera.

ITS FOCUS IS TO ENSURE COMFORT FOR WEAR ON THE RIGHT WRIST AND LEGIBILITY WITH HANDS ON THE HANDLEBARS.
The creation of a timepiece demands a balancing act between total volume, the physical requirements of the movement and its specific features, however, the user’s comfort is equally essential. This was at the heart of the original tonneau shape developed by Richard Mille at the brand’s beginning. This is why the RM 70-01 tourbillon Alain Prost is the first to be totally asymmetric. Tapered in thickness and widening between 2 and 5 o’clock, it prevents the dynamometric crown from rubbing against the sprinter’s wrist as he waits, wrists bent, in the starting blocks. Because of the down-ward wrist position cyclists use when going flat out, extra attention to comfort and ease of movement during use was focused on the case and strap. Produced in an edition of 30 pieces, this new creation was developed in collaboration with Alain Prost, appassionate cyclist and co-director of the Renault e.dams World Champion Formula E team, partner of the brand, and longstanding personal friend of Richard Mille’s.
The Carbon TPT case (49.48 x 54.88 x 17.65 mm) harmoniously melds the tonneau, rectangular and asymmetric shapes. The case, water-resistant to 50 metres thanks to two Nitrile O-ring seals, hosts the calibre RM70-01 (skeletonised and black PVD treated baseplate and bridges crafted of grade 5 titanium, Glucydur Balance wheel, 21,600 vph), a manual winding tourbillon movement with hours, minutes and a power-reserve indicator (70 hours) powered by a planetary differential visible at 5 o’clock.
The movement has incorporated a mechanical odometer that, as cyclists are prone to do, tallies the distance travelled by its owner. The mechanical odometer can tally distances of up to 99.999 kilometres but it can also serve as a reminder, as the mechanism makes it possible to specify set dates or times. Adjusting the odometer is done using two grade 5 titanium pushers. Located at 2 o’clock, the first pusher is a selector that can synchronise any of 5 selected rollers or set the complication in neutral position. Depressing the second pusher, at 10 o’clock incrementally rotates the selected roller. Inspired by the gear indicators on the handlebar gearshift, markers on the odometer provide visual confirmation of the selection.
As this function occupies the greater part of the movement, the calibre needed to be as compact as possible, which was achieved by positioning the barrel and the tourbillon on the same axis.
The mechanism itself, however, is much more complicated. The first pusher activates selection of a roller, one of the five. Execution is confirmed by perfect alignment of the two yellow arrows. The second pusher incrementally rotates the roller, which automatically blocks, thanks to the carry mechanism. To avoid accidental manipulations, the complication has been fitted with a neutral position (N). Thanks to a spring-lock, the selection fork will be lined up straight, with an arrow at 2 o’clock pointing to N as visual confirmation that the mechanism is locked.
Nods to the realm of cycling abound, from the titanium Allen screws that fix the bridges, to the barrel ratchet, which recalls the design of forged wheel spokes, to say nothing of the tourbillon cage and dynamometric crown, evocative of a bicycle’s pedal.
The caseback side is made of sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides.
In order that they may fully enjoy the dynamic and mechanical qualities of the RM 70-01, each buyer will receive as a gift their very own bespoke road cycle. Developed by Alain Prost and Richard Mille in partnership with the prestigious Italian bikemaker Colnago, these individually numbered bicycles are made by hand and painted in the watchmaking brand’s colours.
